Take a look at the cover and read the album title and tell me what kind of music you would expect? Some punk or metalcore stuff? Because that was what I thought first, but then came the surprise. These four guys from Los Angeles (but the members originally are from Argentina - brothers Martin Verry, guitar and Nikee Verry, bass-, New Jersey - Pete Pace, drums -, and Pittsburgh - Adam Joad, vocals) are playing rock and roll.
It's pure rock music, with a '70s feeling and with strong southern influences. They also have some punkish attitude in their songs, but basically it is still only rock 'n' roll. Fast paced music, catchy melodies, easy to follow vocal lines, sing-along choruses and lots of energy - that is what 286 is about.
Their debut EP opens with "Profiled" that sounds like a good old D.A.D. track. It is followed by "68'" that has a Motörheadish groove and a strong southern feeling, with great hooks in the song. The first half minute of "Broken Peace" with the acoustic guitars reminded me of the "Blaze Of Glory" era of Bon Jovi while "Dark Carnival" brought up names like Rose Tattoo and and AC/DC. Their last piece of music on this mini album is "Record Store Prophets" in which they also show they have got some blues influences as well.
In a rock band the singer is a very important element of the whole concept and Adam is a hell of a vocalist. High screams, straightforward rock or hardcorish vocals – never a problem for him. He's got lots of power and life in his voice!
They are presenting an impulsive and great mix of rock 'n' roll that will make your legs or hands tap on whatever they are, will make you drink some beer and having fun if even if you have a shitty day behind you. This is the kind of music that doesn't have to be original or groundbreaking but no matter what, you're gonna love it! Ageless rock lives forever. They just proved it again.
