The Aerium is a Russian band with female opera-vocals and a touch of gothic. "Song For The Dead King" is the debut album for the band, who was founded in 2001, released by Black Lotus Records. Well, I’m not a big fan of bands like Nightwish or Epica, but I know the level of those combos, and unfortunately, The Aerium is not playing in the same league. Surely, sometimes that kind of voice must sound "light", but Veronika Sevostjanova sounds too breakable most of the time, and so does the whole music unfortunately. The competition in that very genre is too strong for The Aerium to remain in the league. There’s way too less variety in the songs, all are written and played in (almost) the same way, some sound etc. It seems to be the general problem, that too many bands want to join the Nightwish-hype, but the Finnish band is really a class of its own, when it comes to power metal with opera-vocals. Well, even gothic metal must have more power than this, the production is way too low, the only hope is the young age of the five bandmembers. Hopefully, their second CD (if there will be one) is better than the first... well, even if they wanted to, they couldn’t do it worse. A better production should be the least...
