"Circle Of Fire" tells us the story of a woman with a destiny, who marries a prince of a oppressing regime, but escapes the loveless marriage back to her birthplace to persue her quest. A stone set in a cast of 8 points (representing the 7 deadly sins plus one point for the truth) guides her, yet she gets caught and burnt in the "Circle Of Fire" where the Moonstone dropped and fell deep into the ground and years later revived a martyr that had been buried there.
It is told by Andrea Münster, singer of a.o. VII Sins, at the time of recording going by the name of Andra J. and on this CD it says "feat. VII Sins". Just another name to push the attractive female to the foreground? More likely a new start for Andra, since by now she has a different band. Anyway, on this CD it's Guido Breidt, Georg Palm of VII Sins and Uli Kusch (Helloween, Masterplan) has co-produced it. Not a bad musical base and I have to say that musically this is simply a really good heavy metal record, with some epic power metal references ("La Rosa Del Amor"). Strong songs and good musicianship, great hooks, riffs, solos. But Andra's vocals leave me with mixed feelings. On one hand not always on key and on the other hand powerful, very driven and passionate and at times aggressive. I'm afraid you'll have to decide for yourself if it's of your liking. For me the passion prevails, but her specific singing style is something not everybody will like.
Most songs are pretty cool with great riffs, catchy choruses (no no nothing cheesy) and well-written. "Broken Mirrors" stands out because it's a pretty ballad, "I Will Survive" because it's a heavy version of Gloria Gaynor's classic - something you won't really expect and "La Rosa Del Amor" because it's in Spanish.
Let's see how Andra develops her voice and her style, and how she will sound on a next record with her new band.
