rating: 5/5

1. Don't Wanna Run (single-edit)
2. Mother (acoustic)
3. Heaven
4. Darkness

Imperia (and ex-Trails Of Tears) singer Helena Michaelsen started this solo project, got signed by Black Lotus and now they released a single as an appetizer for the debut album "A Woman's Diary - Chapter I", out early this summer. Helena asked her Imperia mates to play the music, but it's obviously much different from that band. With Angel she shows us an even more emotional and artistic side, well showing off her talents. You may hear a little Kate Bush or Tori Amos in the first couple of songs, but most of all a Nina Hagen in the last. What a phenomenal voice!

"Don't Wanna Run" is just a great song, with lots of melody, good vocal lines, well sung in a normal as well as an operatic voice. Already I wonder if Angel is a good name for the project, for her voice is not high and fragile, but fairly deep and very powerful. My favorite song is the very emotional acoustic "Mother". It's followed by two songs with more of an orchestra feel. "Darkness" stands out, because it has a totally different (theatrical, psycho) feel to it and as I already mentioned, Helena uses her voice in all sorts of ways, much like I remember from Nina Hagen's old work. Whether you like that or not - it sure makes the listener very curious about the upcoming album!

This single will not be available in the stores, you can order this limited output online at Black Lotus and Helena's website!
