Uh, Swedish melodic death metal, the zillionth. And why am I not surprised I got the promo for review? ;) The Bereaved originally formed in 1998 and went through various line-up changes before they finally recorded their third demo entitled "Inverted Icons" which lead to a deal with Black Lotus Records. And now here "Darkened Silhouette" is.
I seriously haven't much of a clue what I can tell about this record that has not been said about so many other outputs in that seemingly evergrowing genre. Dark Tranquillity and In Flames are quite obviously THE main inspiration and/or influence for these guys, there's no use to deny it. Some more thrashy ingredients are also thrown in here and there, there's actually more or less a bunch in the middle of the record ("Pathetic" and "Devil's Deal" for example). I would really like to write something more specific and special but the problem is that there is nothing special. The songs are ok but hold nothing particulary memorable.
If you want to expand your melo-death collection you can blindly add this album: It won't hurt as the guys offer a solid performance - but unfortunately it won't make much of a difference either.
