The Black Dahlia Murder is back looking for new and more victims with their second album "Miasma". To be perfectly honest, even though I liked the debut I never really found myself listing to "Unhollowed" again and so I could hardly remember what the band sounded like. So, throwing in "Miasma" was almost as if it was my first contact with the band.

And I found out that this obviously just isn't my thing. I tried listening to the album once in a while, I tried listening to it several times in a row - but it simply didn't klick with me. Even worse, I found nothing memorable on "Miasma". The whole album basically sounds the same, there's hardly any variety.
Having said that, I am not intending to say that the band does royally suck. In fact, I am still fond of vocalist Trevor's two vocal styles, the black metalish shriek and the death metalish growl. Their new drummer Zach is a beast (one word: blast beats) and the two guitarists come up with a shitload of heavy riffs and plenty of solos - and there you have energy-laden Swedish death/thrash from the US. Metalcore ingredients are reduced to a minimum here which I noticed kinda relieved. So there's nothing wrong with their performance as such, the band is certainly capable of playing. It's just that the material lacks variety, and perhaps even some remarkable melodies for that matter.
