When I first put "Shape" in the player, the name Wolverine came up immediately. Not that they copy anyone, but just so you know where to place these Italians. Other influences would be bands like Pain Of Salvation and Fates Warning. Highly acclaimed names in the progmetal/rock scene.. so, does Dynamic Lights deliver? Fuck yeah, they do! And then some... they've simply got it all. Awesome musicians that write and play awesome songs, with a dominant role for keyboardist/pianist Giovanni Bedetti. His classical education shines through and his piano seems to be the basis for everything. Marco "Pode" Poderi fills in will excellent guitarwork, the rhythm section ( Raffa Mariotti on bass and Simone del Pivo on drums) never ceases to amaze me. Singer Matteo Infante has a marvellous voice, although at a few moments he seems to have to push it in the higher regions. Something that surprised me a bit, since I've recently seen them live and I thought he was much better (or rather, even better) then - many many goosebumps to be had that night!!!! Also incredibly good are the backing vocals - again something that gave me goosebumps live (Giovanni handled them) and more specifically the harmony of them both.

Ok, back to the album (for the live review check our ProgPower 2005 report!). The opener "In The Hands Of The Siren" is also my favorite song. It contains all Dynamic Lights aspects and it's simply an awesome song. Also because Jamina Jansson (who you may know from guest appearances with Wolverine) stars next to Matteo here, making it a very special duet. "Between Two Parallels" breathes Pain Of Salvation type atmospheres (listen to the piano underneath the vocallines), "Remembrances" has a beautiful litte chorus that often gets stuck in my head (that was another goosebump moment live btw). "Density" is more a piano intro to the heavier "Going To Nowhere". And then it's time for another masterpiece, the over 11 minute long "One Thousand Nothing". Again some beautiful vocal harmonies there and fairy-tale like piano somewhere towards the end, gorgeous! "Connecting" seamlessly flows into the closing song "The Big Show" - leaving us with an album with 55 minutes of sheer beauty!
