DEMIRICOUS
|
Scott Wilson
January 2006
http://www.demiricous.com
From Indianapolis, Indiana come Demiricous, who play old school thrash, somethings that's not too common on American soil. Although it's good we have bands that renew the genre, it's also good to have band that keep traditions going so we can teach the kiddies what metal is really about! Rhythm guitarist Scott Wilson answered my questions:
Demiricous was founded in 2001, what have you guys been up to until now? Have you played much live?
Between then and now we came out with two shitty little four song demos and Metal Blade enjoyed them. So we started writing for the full length. We've played out a ton since then and recorded the full length and a video for the song "Vagrant Idol".
How is the US scene for old school thrash these days? Are things getting better?
I don't know. We'll see how this record does you know? The metal scene is still pretty raging. Seems like it's kinda making a come back. But I don't really know if people are gonna like our style or not.
How are the reactions to "One" so far?
They've been great. Lots of positive feedback from people.
From what parts of the world do you expect the best response? Europe or South America would probably appreciate this type of metal the most, I think?
I think we might go over in Europe a little better then in other places. They seem to embrace metal over there a little more than over here.
How did you get signed by Metal Blade?
Our manager is excellent at what he does. He knows the right people I guess. So he just hands our shit out and people called him back and started making offers. Actually Roadrunner was the first offer on the table. But Metal Blade just seemed like the right choice and so far it's been incredible.
How was it to record with Zeuss? Hasn't he done mostly metalcore stuff before?
Yeah he did some Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage. It was allright though. I think we got an ok sound out of it.
I don't see Chris Cruz' name listed anymore on your sites, is he out?
Chris just wasn't down to take it all the way. I don't think he thought we were gonna do this well. But he has a good job and a girlfriend that he lives with and I think he just was happy doing those things. He didn't want to leave those things to tour and shit so he quit. It's cool though. We are all still on good terms and we got a touring drummer now after a lot of try outs….So everything is cool.
Are there any plans for a full tour or a trip to Europe?
We are gonna be doing a lot of tours this year. I haven't heard anything about Europe but I'm sure it's gonna be in the cards here before too long.
Does the name Demiricous mean anything? Who came up with it?
Demiricous doesn't really mean shit. You won't find it in the dictionary or anything. But we just came up with something that just kinda means us. It's kinda weird but kinda cool I think too cuz it doesn't pigeon hole us or anything, so we are free to do whatever the fuck we want with it you know?
What metal (or music in general) do you listen to? What CDs have you bought recently?
I pretty much listen to metal exclusively. I mean, I have other tastes in music too, but for the most part I just listen to all the old thrash shit and a lot of death metal and whatever. I've been really into the new Mastodon and all the Opeth shit a lot lately.
Who did your website? It's very very beautiful! As a webmaster myself I'm a little jealous;) I can't stop moving my mouse over the menu (to see the effects) haha!
One of our old old friends, Bill Pelon, went to school for web design in Atlanta, Georgia and is just awesome at it.
Thanks for your time and I wish you guys the best for 2006! Anything left that you'd like our readers to know?
Listen to that shit loud!
