GOREROTTED

Gorerotted' new album "A New Dawn For The Dead" shows a matured, yet still typical Gorerotted style after parting ways with Mr. Gore and continuing as a five piece. I had a chance to ask them some questions, here are Wilson's answers.
The new album, it sounds very mature and more technical compared to the previous ones. Would you care to comment?
Thanks, that's the reaction we have been hoping for! The music has really developed, and the band feels much tighter and more natural than before. Don't get me wrong, Gorerotted will always be tongue in cheek, and the humour will always be there, but it's a little subtler than before, or less Beavis and Butthead than before! We didn't specifically want to change the music either, but we are progressing together as people and as musicians, and I hope people like the new form - it's still classic Gorerotted though!
What was it like recording this album? This is the first album that you guys recorded as a five piece.
The recording process was great, we were really well prepared for this one, the the experience was an enjoyable one - nothing is ever perfect, but on the whole it was good! The line up change didn't effect the process at all, just one less vocal session, it actually made it easier!
Did you encounter any difficulties or did things go smoother than before?
Like I said, it was a much smoother process, for me anyway! We did have some problems with our engineer, but nothing we were unable to overcome! The only real difficulties I encountered was trying to walk after drinking all day and all night on the days when I wasn't busy - there was nothing else to do!
Why did Gorerotted part ways with Mr. Gore?
It all just came to a head. Mr Gore didn't do anything since "Only Tools and Corpses", and his enthusiasm for the band had just drained away! We wanted to rehearse all the time, and go touring all the time, and he didn't, so it was bringing the whole band down, so we had to move on! He wanted to leave after our summer festivals, so we decided it was better for him to go immediately - it was for the best!
Did you guys part ways on friendly terms? Do you have contact with each other?
Not sure really, it wasn't like an argument or anything, but I haven't heard from him since! I wish Jay all the best in whatever he is doing now!
Is it just coincidence or is it because of the departure of Mr. Gore that your style has changed or evolved?
No, like I said, he wasn't involved in the writing process in the first place, and it's the same people who wrote the last album who wrote this one, but music does evolve naturally, and that's the beautiful thing about it! I wouldn't be satisfied with doing another album the same, just to keep certain people happy - at the end of the day, we just wrote what was natural to us at the time, and I think the changes are a good thing for us!
I noticed that your lyrics and song titles also changed, I mean compared to the previous ones. Why? What happened to all the gore and funny song titles? Don't get me wrong, I like the new lyrics especially the one from "Dead Drunk".
Again, it just developed that way! I love the old songs, with the silly lyrics and titles, but sometimes you can do something so much that it becomes boring - I want to look back on those songs, and love them, rather than ruin the idea by overdoing it! Look at the lyrics though, its still very like classic Gorerotted, like you said, Dead Drunk is a great example of that! It's also still as violent and gory as before, but a little bit better thought out I think - must be me writing great lyrics that causes that - Ha!
Who wrote the lyrics for this album?
It's not a hard and fast rule, but I wrote most of the lyrics for this album, then I worked them into the songs with Ben and Tim, and they added their ideas too! They did write some songs themselves, like Adding Insult to Injury for example, so it was different for each one! I'm really pleased with the way the lyrics have gone this time!
What's the inspiration behind the lyrics of "A New Dawn For The Dead"?
It's hard to pinpoint, and I can only speak about the songs I wrote, but I didn't take influence from a band, or movie, or book, it's just things that I think about, and questions I want to ask - like I always wonder what goes through the minds of psychos and killers when they commit these crimes - what does it feel like to watch someone die?
Are you guys planning on doing a lot of touring to promote this album?
Yeah, we love to play live, and I think it's a big part of Gorerotted! We are doing lots of festivals, and then were going on tour in Europe for one month with Decapitated - that should be a killer time! Keep checking the website, because our live dates are getting booked and updated all the time!
You guys are known to do a lot of crazy stuff. Would you like to share some of the craziest things you've done or witnessed while being on tour?
Yeah, we just like to have fun! We're just back from a weekend in Belgium, and the usual drunken antics were going on, and if anyone ever watches the video clips on my mobile phone, I think I'll get sent to jail! We just love doing stupid shit, like the Jackass guys or Dirty Sanchez or whatever! Junky Jon had joints stubbed out on his balls, pin badges put though his balls, wine bottles up his ass, the drinking from them - just really stupid shit like that! We hope to do a DVD or something like that, and have lots of these clips on it, or maybe on the website - who knows! It always seems to get worse every time we go away, and it will continue to get worse!
How about on stage?
We always have a great time on stage, and that's a big part of our show! We always interact with the crowd, and it's great fun! I think it's important to stay connected with the audience, and we can all enjoy the show together!
The limited edition also includes a bonus dvd, what can we expect to see on the bonus dvd?
It's 2 live shows, and a music video for "Only Tools and Corpses" - the 2 live shows show 2 different sides to us - one is from Summer Breeze 2004, and it's the big festival environment, which we love, and the second is a little club show, really hot and jam packed with people - we love both types!
Are you guys planning on making a video clip for the new album?
I'm not sure, it's been so busy coming up to the release, and now we're promoting it, it was something we put on the back burner! There has been no decision made on that so far, but it's not something I would rule out!
Thnx a lot for your time and I wish you and the band a lot of success!
Thanks a lot my friend, see you on the road somewhere!
