Their debut "Last Sunrise" already wasn't too shabby, but "Another Life" is a good step up. Heavier and better songs, the hardrock and bluesier elements have been expanded and Francesco Neretti's voice is pretty awesome. Was it because of the line-up changes? Read what one of the new guys, guitarist Francesco Tonazzini, has to say.

I think "Another Life" is a good step up, how have the reactions been so far?

It's early to talk about reactions, because "Another Life" will be released on the 16th of this month; however for the time being the media seems to be very happy with it. People have found it more mature in comparison to the debut album. We are very satisfied with the final shape of "Another Life" and I'm sure people will like it.

Only Ross and Francesco Neretti are left from the "Last Sunrise" line up, can you tell us (if you don't mind) a bit about the how and why of the changes?

The main reason of the changes is that the old members didn't feel to continue with this project anymore. It's a normal thing that happens a lot of times in metal bands...

I know, line-up changes are sometimes very overrated... but I was just curious ;) I didn't find much info on the new members yet except the names...

I'm Francesco Tonazzini (guitars), I was the first to join the band and I don't have a big personal background, before entering Shining Fury I was playing in a death metal band called Fallen Fate. Andrea Bartoletti has already played with Ross in other bands and he was the first bass player of Labyrinth. Federico Accardo (guitar) is a talented musician and before joining Shining Fury he was playing in some cover band.

The songs are heavier and more diverse, your hardrock elements are more present, esp in Francesco's voice. Was that his doing, or more the influence of the new members maybe?

Shining Fury © Shining Fury I think that the reason for much heaviness and more power is the line-up changes. I, Andrea and Federico have a background much heavy than the other members.

Good thing! ;) I don't hear any keyboards on the album this time, did you plan beforehand to leave them out and create a heavier sound with the guitars instead or did it just not fit in?

We decided to not put keyboards in any song this time (all the arrangements are done by guitars and voice). In this way, now the sound of Shining Fury is more close to the Germans. I think the lack of keyboards is one of the characteristics that make the difference between Shining Fury and the other Italian power metal bands.

Did you have any guests on the album (like on the last) or did you think that 3 new members were enough this time? ;)

Hehe yes 3 new members are enough...! Joking aside, there aren't any guest in this album.

You recorded the album with Federico Pedichini again, but had it mixed by Achim Köhler. Why did you chose to have it mixed elsewhere?

Metal Blade chose Achim Köhler for the production of "Another Life". He has done a beautiful job, and I hope to work again with him in the furure. He is one of the best engineers for this kind of music without any doubt .

Is Francesco Neretti still singing in this Deep Purple cover band? Was it his choice to cover "Highway Star"?

No. He doesn't sing in the Deep Purple cover band anymore. No, Ross suggested this cover, because he had already heard Francesco sing this song :)

Who was responsible for your beautiful cover (it looks like some of Claudio Bergamin's work) and does this psychiatric hospital theme represent the lyrics of the titlesong (I can't make out the lyrics well enough)?

The responsible one for the cover is Jan Meininghaus. He has already done a lot of work for metal Blade's bands like Bolt Thrower, Falconer and Brainstorm. He came to us with the idea of the "collage", because he said that it's a perfect technique to create something really dark and depressing. The cover shows a man (the one in the picture) that is tormented by the demons of the past (girl, the child). Now he wants to change his life, but he must face the ghosts from the past and he can't escape from his bad deeds: the past returns sooner or later.

Shining Fury © Shining Fury Wow, Jan Meininghaus?? I totally love his (painted) covers, but I would've never guessed he did this one!
Did you play live much in support of "Last Sunrise"? I can't remember you being on any tours...

After "Last Sunrise" Shining Fury didn't played any live shows. .maybe the reason is the line-up changes. I don't really know this kind of stuff because I joined the band one year after the release of the debut album.

Are there any plans for tours or festivals now?

We are planning some shows here in Italy, but we don't have any tours confirmed yet.

I wish you good luck with the new album, is there anything left you'd like to tell our readers?

First of all I would like to thank you for your interview.. and for the nice review of course! I wish you a lot of crazy adventures in 2006. Please don't hesitate to visit us at www.shiningfury.com and www.myspace.com/shiningfury
