THOU ART LORD
|
Sakis
July 2005
http://www.thouartlord.tk
Thou Art Lord just recently released their new album entitled "Orgia Daemonicum" of which I it's superb and excellent work. I didn't think twice when I got the possibility to shoot a few questions at vocalist and guitarist Sakis. Here we go!
What can you tell me about the new album? This one is pretty diverse.
Yes it pretty diverse indeed...another one new face for Thou Art Lord. Thou Art Lord is a band a project that expresses our current musical worries and having the freedom of expressing ourselves as we really want at this time period we expressed really oldschool-ish because simply we were both into these listenings the last year. Nothing happens on porpose with Thou Art Lord and that we enjoy sometimes more than our main projects.
You guys used a new studio to record this album, why?
Yes, we did use the same studio as we did with the last Rotting Christ album. We had a really good experience recording there and as I am currently working as a producer too I took responsibility for the whole album myself. We can not afford enormous budgets in studio away from Greece so why not to record something here in my neighbourhood in a good quality studio. We gained a lot of experience over the last decade recording with our main bands. I think that the result is what we were achiving...a dirty gloomy old school sound.
What inspires you/and Thou Art Lord in general?
Our long termed experience into metal the last 15 years!
What is your opinion on the current black metal scene?
It has passed into new more succesful paths but still keeps its dark music roots. I can not say no to really significant works of incomers in the scene but surely I say NO to trendy action from so called black metal bands that try to reach the top because simply black metal wasn't born for that reason. Even if I consider old black metal bands precious I am still into newcomers in the scene. Newcomers that keep the flame burning.
Now if I'm not mistaken, Thou Art Lord consists of only two members right?
Yes right but also some other members of other bands contributed as well. Thou Art Lord is a band that welcomes everyone from the metal family to contribute. This time Themis from Rotting Christ just happened to do that because listening to the pre-production he put a knife to my neck asking for that. Also L from a new cool Greek incomer black metal band called Ravencult and Makis from another great Greek band called Negative Creeps.
Why not have a steady line-up? Or is it easier like this for you guys?
The band is not active on stage so it is easier to share ideas with only one person. That's all about it.
What's your opinion on the current incident where Dave Mustaine threatened to pull out of several festival appearances in Greece because of the satanic support acts?
I will go ahead with the official statement I did for that:
"Unfortunately we find ourselves in the difficult position to have to announce to our fans that we feel like cancelling our upcoming participation in two big festivals (something that we have done several times before too) with the reason being our band's name. A name that expresses our opposition to any kind of religion, a name that opposes to any fake visions of an eternal calmness and peace, a name that is a punch at the conservative basis of the hypocritical and religious so called democratic societies."
Have any of you guys ever been Megadeth fans?
Not really. I liked the first two albums but this band was never something special for us and never influenced the band itself.
What do you think of Anton Lavey and satanism in general?
A form of religion, a way of life, an alternative morality into nowadays conservative societies, something that really needs a lot of time to be expressed and really can't been expressed through mail.
What's the latest cd you bought or heard that impressed you?
Latest Judas Priest album impressed me a lot. I am also proud to announce that I found the first ever censored Hellhammer edition on vinyl! I do also hear many brand new releases recently but really didn't get impressed...Maybe I am getting older?
What's your all time favorite album?
Any album from Bathory was and will forever be my all time classics.
What are the odds of the fans getting to see you guys live? I know that there are a lot fans who would want to see Thou Art Lord perform live.
Thou Art Lord has never appeared with a song on the stage and this is something that I am gonna push Magus to do this year. I can not think of something better than expressing yourself on stage without any deadlines and stress. Yes, I am into doing that, let's hope Magus wanna do the same.
Any final words?
Horns up, borthers and sisters!
Thanks a lot for your time and I wish you and the band a lot of success!
Thanks also Brian and wish all the best in the future for your mag.
