EVANESCENCE - REVELATION THEORY

In 2003 the band first hit Holland following the very successful album "Fallen", at that time still with Ben Moody on guitar, together with John LeCompt. That was in the 013 venue in Tilburg. Having good memories of that gig, and having heard the new album which I had to get used to, Evanescence was to perform in Paradiso, Amsterdam. That seemed (certainly now) an unlucky choice.
The gig was sold out in 10 minutes and entering the venue, there was no door control; but once inside, security warned several people to put away mobile phones and cameras, and some were even taken outside to account for what they were doing; still, on the balcony I spotted at least 3 videocameras that probably filmed the whole show. I asked Paradiso why their security acted like this towards people that paid a lot of money to see the band; the answer was that tourmanager Ritchie asked on the same day as the gig if there would be door control which wasn't the case; then he had ordered security inside to prevent people from taking pictures and filming…..
The gig was fantastic! The band was in good shape, the sound was not very good but the fun on stage merged with the feelings of all visitors, it was a party. So much of a party that when Amy's piano was brought on stage, the band started to play Metallica riffs as an interlude. Amy was very surprised that the Dutch audience knew all lyrics and sang along so loud that she couldn't hear herself at times.
As for the opening act, Revelation Theory…they did their best to amuse us all, but musically, it was a bit out of touch with Evanescence. As we call it, thirteen in a dozen.
Lucky for me (I did not get an interview, unfortunately), I was able to ask Amy 1 question when the band came outside to do some signing. Yes, she did get my Ayreon sample CD (I had asked if she was in for some collaboration with Arjen Lucassen's projects) back in 2003 and she remembered playing it. Will it ever get to that point? I hope for Arjen's sake it will….one day. The band announced to get back to Holland in 2007 so hopefully they will choose 013 in Tilburg again.
