Honestly, I had never thought that I would go to a concert just to see the two support acts. As happened on Wednesday, October 5th in the Frankfurt Batschkapp. Well, I simply don't like Nevermore, but Mercenary and Dew-Scented are really cool, so why miss them?
The Danish thrashers MERCENARY started when most of the fans weren't ready yet for music. Lots of room in the first row, and even the sound was pretty good, something I didn't really expect. They opened up with "ReDestructDead", and from song to song more people came to cheer for the sixpiece. The band was in a good mood, the singers Kral and Mikkel were in great shape, and so were the instrumentalists. The setlist mostly contained songs from the current
output "11 Dreams" and only one song from the debut "Everblack" was played ("Seize The Night").
"11 Dreams" was the highlight and the final song for Mercenary and after all, quite a lot of fans cheered for the band. Good job, guys!! After the gig, we had the chance to meet the band at the merch booth and to talk to them a bit, very cool indeed!
setlist Mercenary:
ReDestructDead
Firesoul
World Hate Center
Seize The Night
11 Dreams
Afterwards DEW-SCENTED entered the stage, the heaviest of the three bands. But with their melodic and technical death metal, the guys from Braunschweig had the crowd in their hands quite fast. There was a moshpit during almost every song, and the four guys really did a good job on stage. The crowd said "thank you" in their own way, not only with applause but also with lots of action in front of the stage. My personal highlight was "Rituals Of Time" from the current CD "Issue VI", but to be honest, I don't know too much from that band. Vocalist Leffe Jensen knew how to get in touch with the
crowd, his brutal voice and snappy comments in between were really good.
setlist Dew-Scented:
Bitter Conflict
Turn To Ash
Cities Of The Dead
Processing Life
Rituals Of Time
The Prison Of Reason
New Found Pain
Destination Hell
Soul Poison
Unfortunately (for you readers), I can't say a thing about NEVERMORE, because I was busy talking to Mikkel from Mercenary. Just one thing: They must have been good, but besides from the fact that I don't like the voice, I absolutely don't like their version of "The Sound Of Silence"!!
Luckily most Nevermore fans do :) For a long review by Cora of the Nevermore (and the other bands) gig at Bochum go HERE.
